New FAA rules on Color Vision Testing

Writer: FlyingMedicine FlyingMedicine

🛩️ New rules for FAA Colour Vision Testing for Pilots 🎨👀Did you know that colour vision is crucial for pilots? It helps in reading cockpit instruments, interpreting navigation lights, and recognizing airport signals. The FAA has specific colour vision testing requirements to ensure pilots can safely operate aircraft. The FAA rules changed on January 1, 2025 and now require advanced testing for initial applicants.✅ The Waggoner CCVT test is the easiest logistically to undertake this initial screening we have found.✅ Others include the CAD test or Optec 900.✅ Failing these? You may need a Medical Flight Test (OCVT and MFT) to demonstrate safe colour recognition in real flight conditions. If you're an aspiring or current pilot with colour vision concerns, consult an aviation medical examiner (AME) to explore your options! 🏁✈️🔗 Save this post for reference & follow on Instragm for updated news.
